Compress PDF

Processed in your browser. Not uploaded.

How it works

1Upload your PDF file
2Choose Standard (server, files expire after 30 minutes) or Privacy (browser). Both use the same structural compression — images inside the PDF are not re-encoded.
3Click Compress PDF
4Download the result. Already-optimised PDFs may barely shrink.

Frequently asked questions

What does Standard mode compress?

Standard mode uploads your PDF and re-saves it with optimised object streams. That shrinks the file structure. Embedded images are not re-encoded, so visual quality stays the same.

What does Privacy mode do?

Privacy mode runs the same structural compression in your browser using pdf-lib. Nothing is uploaded.

How much smaller will the file be?

Typically 5–25% for unoptimised PDFs. Already-compressed or image-heavy PDFs often barely shrink, because we do not re-encode pictures inside the document.

Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?

Only in Standard mode. It expires after 30 minutes and cleanup removes it shortly afterward. Privacy mode never uploads anything.

Will the output look different?

No. Both modes copy pages as-is and only rewrite the PDF structure. Content, images, and text stay at original quality.
