Frequently asked questions
What is Base64 used for?
Base64 is used to encode binary data (like images or files) into text format that can be safely transmitted over text-based protocols like email, JSON, or URLs.
Is Base64 encryption secure?
No. Base64 is encoding, not encryption. Anyone can decode a Base64 string. Do not use it to protect sensitive information.
Why is my Base64 output so long?
Base64 expands data by roughly 33%. A 1KB file becomes about 1.33KB in Base64. This is normal and expected.
Can I encode images to Base64?
Yes, but for images our dedicated tools are more practical. You can paste image data here, but the Image Compressor and Converter are better for file preparation.
